The Next Generations of Groundbreakers

The O’Brien Foundation has been training surgeons and research fellows from Australia and overseas for the last 50 years. The O’Brien Foundation also provides scholarships to support our researchers to become scientific experts. Dr Max Lim, the Head of Cardiac Regeneration supports students and early career researchers to progress ground-breaking research ideas.

Dr Max Lim, whose focus is on using stem cells and tissue engineering to find solutions for heart disease, says “effective new treatments that protect the heart from injury following heart attack are urgently needed.” The O'Brien Cardiac Regeneration Group are developing a 3D beating human heart in a dish. "We will use this to find new medicines for heart disease."
